The Dos of Job Applications ✅

Applying for jobs seems easy, but there are a lot of things you should and shouldn’t be doing. If you’re tired of not hearing a response from potential employers, here are some tips you should keep in mind before you apply for your next job. ????????

✅ Do your research ????

Before you even think of applying, make sure you thoroughly research the company, its culture, and the kind of work it does. Check out the company’s social media pages and websites to make sure their goals and values align with yours. Doing so will also help you determine if you actually want to work there. Plus, it can help you at the time of your interview.

✅ Do read the job description ????

Carefully read the job description a number of times to make sure you understand the company’s requirements and the kind of person they seek along with the responsibilities. Only apply to the job if the description sounds like something you can do and if you meet the requirements. For instance, if the company is looking for someone with 5 years of experience and you’ve only got 1, it’s better to move on to the next job listing.

While many people encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the requirements, overlooking such a key requirement is bound to result in rejection.

✅ Do follow the given instructions ????️

There’s nothing more important than following all the instructions present in the job post. It can be something as simple as applying through an email or a job portal, but it’s important that you follow whatever is asked of you down to the T.

In addition to that, make sure that you include everything that’s asked for, including the work samples, resume, salary requirements, references, and cover letter.

✅ Do write a cover letter ????

Cover letters play a crucial role since they allow you to mention everything else about yourself that’s not present in the resume. Also make sure you include the keywords in the job posting to show that you’re a great fit for the role.

✅ Do mention your LinkedIn profile ????

Employers appreciate when you mention your LinkedIn profile on your resume, since they usually use it to review applicants. Just make sure your profile is updated.

And if you’re planning on including your other social media accounts in your resume, make sure they don’t have any unprofessional or offensive posts or photos. And if you can’t remove such posts, then make sure you change your profile settings to private so that only your friends can see them.
